چکیده
Introduction Carvedilol reduces rates of variceal bleeding and rebleeding by lowering portal pressure. However, an associated pleotropic survival benefit has been proposed. We aim to investigate further undertaking long-term follow-up a multicentred randomised control trial. Methods The index study 64 cirrhotic patients with clinically confirmed acute oesophageal between June 2006 December 2011 receive either carvedilol or endoscopic band ligation (EBL).1 reviewed electronic patient records for all up 31/04/2020 updated the previously defined relevant outcomes. Results Of those randomised, 26 out 33 participants received in period 28 31 attended regular EBL sessions. There were no significant differences baseline characteristics groups. Mean was 2217 days. mean duration administration 1267 On intention treat analysis, there trend towards improved group, but this did not reach statistical significance (p=0.09). on per-protocol significantly (p<0.01), as well fewer liver related deaths (4% vs 29%, p=0.02, OR=0.1) experiencing hospital admission decompensated disease (11% 50%, p<0.01, OR=0.13) compared respectively. statistically other adverse outcomes groups, including (39% 32%, p=0.78, OR=1.3). Esophageal variceal ligation in the secondary prevention of variceal bleeding: Result of long term follow-up
INTRODUCTION Long-term outcome of patients after band ligation have been poorly defined. Therefore, we conducted a long-term follow-up study to delineate the outcome of ligation in patients with portal hypertension in the Hassan II university hospital, Fes, Morocco. METHODS Over 118 months patients treated by endoscopic variceal ligation were received regular follow- up and detailed clinical ...
متن کاملEndoscopic variceal band ligation compared with propranolol for prophylaxis of first variceal bleeding.
Administration of nonselective beta-blockers in prophylaxis of first variceal bleeding is not suitable for all patients. Thus, we evaluated endoscopic variceal band ligation (EVBL) in primary prevention of bleeding in patients with cirrhosis and large esophageal varices. A total of 73 consecutive patients with liver cirrhosis and large esophageal varices without a history of gastrointestinal bl...
متن کاملEndoscopic variceal ligation-induced ulcer bleeding
This study was aimed to determine the risk factors of endoscopic variceal ligation-(EVL) induced ulcer bleeding. The prevalence of EVL-induced ulcer bleeding is reported to be 3.6%. However, there are only limited reports of this serious complication, and the risk factors and the treatment methods are not well established.A total of 430 patients who had undergone EVL in Chonnam National Universi...
متن کاملBand ligation vs. N-Butyl-2-cyanoacrylate injection in acute gastric variceal bleeding: a prospective follow-up study.
BACKGROUND. Treatment of gastric varices (GV) implies a number of several difficulties and sometimes entails complications. The best endoscopic success rate was attributed until now to the use of tissue adhesives(N-Butyl-2-Cyanoacrylate) and band ligation. AIM. To assess the therapeutic efficacy and safety of cyanoacrylate injection compared to band ligation in patients with acute GV hemorrhage...
